Grade One teacher Meera Arora describes the process behind these beautiful trees:

"As part of the grade one science curriculum, the students studied daily and seasonal cycles. The students worked diligently to learn techniques suitable for making feature such as leaves, grass and flowers. The leaves were one of the aspects which required the most practice! In order to make a leaf, the students rolled the Plasticine into a small ball (smaller than a pea), flattened it into a small pancake, and pinch up one corner to form the point.

The students also worked very hard on planning before completing their projects. They drew their scenes prior to working with the Plasticine. They then proceeded to making blue backgrounds, and before adding anything, they etched all the items (e.g., sun, tree trunk, branches, etc) with a paper clip. Once all was etched, they added the Plasticine to form the different components of their works. The students learned such a great deal about the art of Plasticine and had a wonderful time engaging in the process! They achieved a great sense of accomplishment and pride in their work."
